Abstract:
In this study, a numerical model has been developed to predict currents and water levels prevailing in the Marmara Sea. The model is a depth averaged two-layer transient model to adequately simulate stratified flow conditions in the sea. The nonlinear partial differential equations of the model have been solved by using an explicit finite difference scheme and employing a local integral method to reduce truncation and round-off errors and to improve accuracy. Special emphasis has been laid on the prediction of currents and water levels under strong winds.
